| Q How do I save a file to the hard dirve?
A Not all files permit saving. If the file is set to allow download and save, then press PAUSE ( || ) while the video is playing, then mouse to the upper left corner of the player and click on the "File" menu, then select "Save Media As".
Q Which Windows Media Player version do I need?
A Any recent player, version 7, or 9, or 10 will work. If it needs to be updated, updates will be downloaded automatically from Microsoft when you use it.
Q What if it doesn't play at all?
A Microsoft admits to some problems. Try this fix: Microsoft Knowledge Base Article - 811166 If that doesn't fix it, Microsoft has more troubleshooting steps in the Media Advice Archive. If the media player gives you a specific error message, click on "More Information" to get the error code number, and check it against the list of Media Player Error Messages.
Q Why do I get Error -2147188722 ?
A The file you are playing is DRM protected, and your DRM security in your player is not up to date. Go here: http://drmlicense.one.microsoft.com/Indivsite/en/indivit.asp to upgrade.
Q In my office there is a firewall that blocks Windows Media. What are the proper firewall ports to open?
A The best quality uses UDP protocol, which sends out player requests using both UDP and TCP through port 1755. The returning video stream uses UDP and can find any open port to use between 1024 and 5000. If there are multiple users, (or other RPC or DCOM functions) you must open multiple incoming ports in the firewall, because they don't share.
You can also view Windows Media with the TCP protocol. For that, open port 1755 in both directions for TCP.
Q Error message says I do not have the necessary codec.
A The codec (coder/decoder) is the software format for the video and audio data. Windows Media Player should automatically download the proper codec if it is not already installed. If automatic download doesn't work, you can manually download and install them from Microsoft Codec Installation Package.
Q How do I put a video on my web site?
A Just send us the videotape for encoding. We get best results when we work from videotape. If you send a digital file or a DVD, some of KlikVU's image optimizing is circumvented, and if the quality doesn't measure up, KlikVU won't sell it for you with free hosting.
Q What type of films can be sold?
A All kinds. From hobby and how-to videos, to training, entertainment, sports, independent films and documentaries of special interest, ethnic and genre - each can find it's niche audience on the world wide web.
Q Can I watch KlikVU videos on a TV instead of on the computer?
A Yes. In fact it may actually look better because the program was made for a TV in the first place. Many computers have a "TV Out" jack. If yours doesn't, you can change your VGA card and get one that does. Or, you can purchase a simple plug-in adapter that goes between your computer and your computer monitor and provides "TV Out". Some TV-Out equipped VGA cards offer two outputs, an RCA jack (called "composite video"), and a mini-din jack with 4 pins, often called "S-Video" but technically called "Y/C". If your TV or VCR has an input jack for "Y/C", use it to get clearer pictures.
Q Can I save the video and watch it later from my hard drive?
A No. You must be connected to the KlikVU servers.
Q Installing Windows Media Player 7 on Mac OS 8, 9.
A When you visit " Get Windows Media Player " you will see the Mac download page with OS-X selected. You must select OS-8,9. Once the installer is downloaded to your desktop, you must reboot. (Do not let the installer continue automatically, or your installation may be forever corrupted). Disconnect from the network and run the installer program from the desktop.
Q When I click to view a video, the RealPlayer launches.
A The links are to ASX script pages. ASX file type is supposed to be associated only with Windows Media Player. You may have to go into Windows Explorer (the icon of the magnifying glass over a file folder), and go to the menu TOOLS > FOLDER OPTIONS > FILE TYPES, find the ASX file type, hit "Advanced" and edit the "Opens with" entry so it opens with:
"C:\Program Files\Windows Media Player\mplayer2.exe" /Play "%L"
Type it just like that, with the quote marks and all. |
